Webinar at the European Parliament on the future of centers of professional excellence
Overview

The webinar dedicated to the Centers of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) and the Future of Vocational Education and Training (VET), entitled “Global CoVEs: The future of VET”, took place on Wednesday 19 January 2022.

Part of a key action within Erasmus +, the Center of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) is an initiative based on a bottom-up approach to excellence, in which VET institutions are able to rapidly adapt the supply of skills to changing economic and social needs. The aim is to promote transnational collaborative platforms that Member States could not set up in the absence of incentives, technical support and mutual learning opportunities offered by the EU.

Members of the European Parliament Elisabetta Gualmini, Chiara Gemma and Manuel Pizarro were promoters of the event to support the territorial experiences of Emilia-Romagna, Puglia and the city of Lisbon. Of particular relevance was also the speech by Manuela Geleng, Director of the DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL) of the European Commission, who presented the European initiatives in the field of vocational education and training (Vocational Education and Training - VET).

The main space was dedicated to the debate between the four Centers of Professional Excellence that participate in the Skillman network, an international network in the field of training and learning that promotes the Global CoVEs initiative. For the Emilia-Romagna Region, Chiara Pancaldi and Rossella Brindani presented the excellences of Ferrara (Centoform) and Reggio Emilia (CIS), Maria Manuel Ribeiro the CoVE of Lisbon.

Finally, Roberto Vingiani (ITS A. Cuccovillo) promoted the experience of the Puglia Region CoVE which includes the HISTEK project as a good practice of applying the model of the Centers of Vocational Excellence at cross-border level as part of the Interreg Italy-Albania-Montenegro Programme.
